🔬 How it works: the molecule that reaches the inflammation is the same whichever salt carries it — the salt decides how fast it gets there. The potassium salt dissolves and is absorbed quickly, which is what acute pain needs; the sodium salt was built for sustained release and reaches its peak slowly. In chronic pain that is an advantage. In a single dose for pain that already hurts, it is the whole problem. 📊 Evidence: in the Cochrane single-dose review diclofenac potassium 50 mg gave an NNT of 2.1 (95% CI 1.9-2.5), while the sodium salt in the same setting gave 6.6 — a threefold gap for one active substance. The review authors write plainly that the sodium salt has limited efficacy and should probably not be used in acute pain. The box says one word, diclofenac; the result depends on the word after it.
