Forefeel Privacy Policy

Forefeel is a migraine diary for iPhone. It works without an account and without a server of ours: your records stay on your iPhone. This policy explains exactly what the app does with data.

Who we are

Forefeel is developed and published by Volodymyr Perelyhin, an individual developer working under the name Universum.earth ("we", "us").

Summary

  • No account and no sign-in.
  • No analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs. We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
  • No Forefeel server. We do not receive, store or see your attack records, health data or location.
  • The only data that leaves your iPhone automatically is an approximate location (rounded to about 1 km), sent to Open-Meteo to get weather and air quality.
  • The app also downloads the public geomagnetic (Kp) forecast from NOAA. That request contains no location and no personal data.
  • A report leaves your iPhone only when you choose to share it.
  • If you email us, we receive your message and use it only to answer you.

Data stored on your iPhone

Forefeel stores the following in its own storage on your iPhone, using Apple's SwiftData:

  • Attack records: start time, intensity (1–10), duration, the medication you type (free text) and the factors you tick yourself (poor sleep, stress, skipped a meal, cycle, long screen time, alcohol, little water, caffeine change).
  • Daily local conditions: air pressure, temperature, humidity, rain, PM2.5 and US AQI for past days and forecast days, plus sleep hours if you connect Apple Health.
  • Geomagnetic activity notes: the daily maximum Kp index and your yes/no answers about the days before high geomagnetic activity.
  • Evening heads-ups created by the app and your answers to the follow-up check-in.
  • App settings and the phone's last known position, kept so the forecast can be refreshed in the background. The last known position is stored precisely, only on your iPhone.
  • PDF reports you prepare are temporary files in the app's temporary folder, which iOS clears over time.

The app compares attack days with other days (pattern analysis) entirely on your iPhone. We have no copy of any of this data.

Location and Open-Meteo

With your permission (While Using the App), Forefeel reads your location while the app is open. It uses it to fetch weather and air quality for your area from Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com), a free weather service operated by OpenMeteo GmbH in Switzerland that needs no key or account.

  • Before sending, the app rounds coordinates to 2 decimal places (about 1 km). It sends nothing else about you, your attacks or your health.
  • A request covers the last 92 days and up to 7 days of forecast. The app repeats it when you open the app and during iOS background refresh, using the last known position.
  • Like any web server, Open-Meteo receives your device's IP address with each request. According to its terms (https://open-meteo.com/en/terms), Open-Meteo keeps server logs, including the requested coordinates, for up to 90 days. Open-Meteo handles these requests under its own terms, and we do not receive its logs.
  • Legal basis: your consent, given through the iOS location permission (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw it at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Forefeel.
  • If you deny location access, the app cannot fetch conditions, but you can still log attacks.

Weather and air-quality data come from Open-Meteo under the CC BY 4.0 licence (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/).

Geomagnetic forecast (NOAA)

To show a note on the day before high geomagnetic activity (Kp 4 or more), Forefeel downloads the public planetary K-index (Kp) forecast from the Space Weather Prediction Center of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA, services.swpc.noaa.gov). The request contains no location, no identifiers and no health data; like any web server, NOAA's server receives your device's IP address. The daily maximum Kp is stored with the day's conditions on your iPhone, together with your answers to whether you felt worse on the day before. NOAA space weather data is in the public domain.

Apple Health (optional)

If you allow it, Forefeel reads sleep analysis from Apple Health. Access is read-only, and the app never writes to Health. The app uses sleep hours on your iPhone to check whether short nights came with your attacks, and stores them day by day in the app. The app never sends Health data to Open-Meteo, to us or to any third party. It leaves the app only as the short-sleep line in a report you choose to share. It is never used for advertising or marketing. You can turn access off at any time in the Health app's privacy settings for Forefeel.

Notifications (optional)

Forefeel offers notifications after you have logged attacks on 5 days; you can also allow notifications earlier in Settings. If you allow them, the app schedules two kinds of notification on your iPhone:

  • an evening heads-up (19:00 by default, adjustable from 17:00 to 22:00 in Settings), sent only when tomorrow's weather and air look like your past attack days;
  • a check-in question at 10:00 the morning after that day.

These are local notifications created on the device. We use no push service and receive no device token. The app sends no other notifications. Notification text, including the conditions behind a heads-up, can appear on your Lock Screen. To hide it, set iOS Settings → Notifications → Forefeel → Show Previews → When Unlocked. You can turn notifications off in the app's Settings or in iOS Settings.

Siri and Shortcuts

You can log an attack with Siri ("Log an attack in Forefeel") or with the Shortcuts app. If you use Siri, Apple processes your voice request under Apple's privacy policy. Forefeel receives only the attack you log, such as its intensity, and stores it on your iPhone.

Sharing that you start

The app creates the PDF report "For your doctor" and the plain-text summary on your iPhone. They leave the phone only if you send them through the iOS share sheet to a person or app you choose. From then on, the recipient's own practices apply. We do not receive a copy.

What we do not collect

  • No name, phone number or account, and no email address unless you write to us (see "If you email us").
  • No analytics, usage statistics, crash-reporting SDKs, advertising identifiers or tracking. We do not sell data or share it for advertising.
  • No server of ours holds any data about you.

If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in iOS Settings, Apple may give us aggregated, de-identified crash and usage statistics under Apple's privacy policy. These statistics do not include your records.

If you email us

If you write to vpereligyn@gmail.com, we receive your email address and whatever you include, such as health details. We use it only to answer you. We keep it no longer than needed to resolve your question (at most 12 months) and delete it sooner on request. Email is handled by Google (Gmail). Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering your request (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)) and, for any health details you choose to send, your explicit consent (Art. 9(2)(a)).

Retention and deletion

  • Your data stays on your iPhone until you delete it.
  • Settings → Your data → Delete all records permanently deletes every attack, evening heads-up and stored day of conditions, including the sleep hours stored with them, and cancels scheduled and delivered notifications. App settings and the last known position stay until you delete the app. If Sleep from Health stays on, sleep hours are read again from Health at the next refresh.
  • Temporary PDF reports are cleared by iOS over time and are removed when you delete the app.
  • Deleting the app removes all of its data from your iPhone.
  • If you use iCloud Backup or back up your iPhone to a computer, iOS includes the app's data in those backups. The backups follow your own backup settings.
  • Deleting data in the app does not affect reports you have already shared, because they are outside the app.
  • Open-Meteo keeps its server logs for up to 90 days, according to its terms.
  • Emails you send us are kept for at most 12 months.

Your rights

Apart from emails you send us, we hold no personal data about you, so there is nothing else on our side to access, correct, export or delete. You control all of your data on your iPhone. To access or delete your emails with us, write to vpereligyn@gmail.com. Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR or the UK GDPR), you have rights over your personal data, including the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority. For Open-Meteo's server logs, contact Open-Meteo. For any other question, email vpereligyn@gmail.com.

Security

Records are kept in the app's sandbox and protected by iOS data protection, which is tied to your device passcode. Weather requests use HTTPS. We recommend keeping a passcode on your iPhone.

Children

Forefeel is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and the app collects none from anyone.

Forefeel shows a personal pattern based on your own records. It is not a diagnosis or medical advice, and it does not replace a doctor. In an emergency, contact your local emergency services.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update this page and its effective date. We will also mention significant changes in the app's release notes.
